Valletta take on Qarabagh in Baku

UEFA-Champions-LeagueValletta will be aiming for a good performance and possibly a good result as they face Qarabağ FK in the second leg of the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League at the Tofiq Bahramov Stadium in Baku on Tuesday, kick-off at 18:30.

Following a 0-1 defeat at Ta’ Qali, reaching the next stage is definitely a very difficult task as they have to win by two goals but Gilbert Agius’ side will be definitely determined to do well against Qarabağ Ağdam FK who have a good record in the UEFA Europa League as in recent years, they managed to reach the third qualifying round or even the play-offs stage, only to be eliminated by top teams like Twente, Borussia Dortmund, Club Brugge and Eintracht Frankfurt.

With Ryan Camilleri ruled out through suspension, Maltese-Australian winger Adrian Zahra could make his official debut for the Citizens. Otherwise Agius is not expected to make much changes from the team which played in the first leg.

Valletta are still hoping to become the first Maltese club to reach the third round of a UEFA competition. They qualified for a second round in the UEFA Champions League in 1999 after eliminating Barry Town of Wales, the UEFA Europa League in 2009 after eliminating Keflavik of Iceland, the UEFA Champions League in 2011 after eliminating Tre Fiori of San Marino, the UEFA Champions League in 2012 after eliminating Lusitanos of Andorra and the UEFA Europa League last season after eliminating La Fiorita of San Marino.

The winner of Valletta FC/Qarabağ FK will be facing FC Salzburg in the third qualifying round due to be played on July 29/30 and August 5/6.
