Malta Summer Cup: Mosta turn defeat into victory

luxol-stadiumMosta came back from two goals down to beat Floriana 3-2 in one of the two matches from Group B of The Convenience Shop Malta Summer Cup at the Luxol Stadium.

A brace by Matteo Piciollo on the 15th and 25th put the Greens two goals ahead. James Brincat pulled one back on 33 minutes for Mosta and Luis Pena equalised six minutes in the second half. Daniel Mariano Bueno made it 3-2 for Mosta on the 61st. Luis Pena was sent off for the Blues.

In another match, Zebbug Rangers defeated First Division side Vittoriosa Stars 4-1.

Mauricio Rodrigues Britto put Zebbug ahead after just three minutes when he converted a penalty but Stephane Banzio levelled matters four minutes from the end of the first half. Matias Muchardi restored the lead for Zebbug on 73 minutes and a minute later, Luan Sergio de Almeida put them 3-1 ahead. John Nwoba sealed the issue with a fourth goal on the 90th.

Zebbug now lead the way with five points, followed by Mosta on 4, Floriana 3 and Vittoriosa 0.

The tournament continues on Saturday with the final two games from Group A as Naxxar Lions take on Pietà Hotspurs at 18:30 and Qormi meet Balzan at 20:30.
