Malta still 150th in FIFA Ranking

Malta retained the 150th place in the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking for the month of August which was published on Thursday.

Among the other European countries, Malta is still ranked 49th, behind Kazakhstan (131, down 4) and Cyprus (140, down 1). Lyding behind Malta are Liechtenstein (167), Faroe Islands (183, up 1), Andorra (199, down 1) and San Marino (208).

Malta will face Slovakia in a friendly match at the Štadión pod Dubňom in Žilina on September 4, five days before taking on Croatia at the Stadion Maksimir in Zagreb in the first match from the EURO 2016 qualifiers.

Meanwhile one month on from the FIFA World Cup™ in Brazil, there has been a lull in footballing activity in many parts of the world. As a result, there is only one small change within the top 14 positions of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking. World champions Germany continue to lead the way ahead of Argentina and the Netherlands, but Spain have jumped one position and now share seventh place with Brazil. Meanwhile, World Cup quarter-finalists Costa Rica (15th, up 1) have climbed into 15th at the expense of the USA (18th, down 3), which means that Los Ticos are now in their highest-ever position since the introduction of the world ranking in 1993.
