Second win for Mosta

Mosta registered their second win as a goal by Daniel Mariano Bueno enabled them to beat newly-promoted Pietà Hotspurs 1-0.

For the Hotspurs, this was the second defeat in as many matches and they could consider themselves unlucky to leave Ta’ Qali empty-handed.

Pietà had four changes from the team which lost narrowly to Birkirkara last week as Kyle Cesare, Luke Micallef and newcomers Claudio Frances and Joao Gabriel da Silva replaced Quilin Refalo, Malcolm Licari, Dylan Agius and the suspended Rafael Xavier. On the other hand, Mosta coach Enrico Piccioni kept faith in the same starting eleven which faced Valletta last week.

During a quiet first half, the best attempt at goal occurred two minutes from the end through Leonardo Fortunato whose low shot from just inside the area scraped past the post.

Mosta went close on 68 minutes with a Bojan Kaljevic header turned into a corner by David Cassar following a cross by substitute James Brincat.

The Blues finally managed to break the deadlock on 74 minutes when following a good run by James Brincat on the left, he served Daniel Mariano Bueno who slotted the ball past goalkeeper David Cassar.

Eight minutes from time, Pietà went close to equalising when off a cross by Claudio Frances, substitute Malcolm Licari’s first time effort hit the upright. Two minutes later, a Terence Agius effort from outside the area was parried by Omar Borg.

In added time, Daniel Mariano Bueno had two opportunities to double the score but his diagonal shot from the left after a good run scraped past the post and then a powerful shot from the right ended wide. Finally a direct freekick by Claudio Frances for the Hotspurs ended just over the bar.
