Malta international defender Andrei Agius will be playing for Hibernians after agreeing a two-year deal.

The Paolites will be the fourth local club for Agius who had started his career with Santa Lucia and then joined Sliema before moving abroad for the first time. In January 2011, he joined Birkirkara for the latter part of the season before returning back to Italy where he spent most of his career.

He had been attracting the interest of a number of Italian clubs including Monza, Savoia and Martina Franca in recent weeks before opting to move back to Malta.

Agius first moved abroad in 2004 to join FK Zemun in Serbia. The following season, he moved to Italy to join Sporting Mascalcuia. He then signed for Messina but spent time on loan with AC Martina Franca and Igea Virtus. After a spell with Cassino, he joined Melfi but in January 2011, he returned to Malta, joining Birkirkara. Agius returned to Italy the following summer and played for Latina with whom he managed to secure promotion to the Serie B. He started last season with Torres but moved to Aprilia in January.
