Four Third Division clubs through to FA Trophy second round

A good comeback by Qala Saints enabled them to force extra-time but Santa Lucia notched the winner in extra-time to reach the second round of the FA Trophy. Joining them in the second round are Kirkop United, Qrendi and Sta. Venera Lightnings.

At the Gozo Stadium, Joshua Cutajar gave Santa Lucia a two-goal lead, opening the score on the 8th and doubling the score two minutes in the second half. Qala pulled one back with a Manuel Buttigieg penalty on the 72nd and a goal by Alan Cini on the 90th. The game went into extra-time with Ryan Refalo securing victory for Santa Lucia on the 119th.

Kirkop United eliminated Gozitan champions Xewkija Tigers, beating them 1-0 at the Gozo Stadium. Vladimir Klikic scored scored the all-important goal on 71 minutes.

At the Centenary Stadium, Qrendi beat Marsaxlokk 2-0. Stephane Banzio put Qrendi ahead on 38 minutes and seven minutes from time, Denis Di Maio doubled the score.

In another match, Sta. Venera Lightnings defeated Marsaskala 2-0 thanks to a brace by Mark Grech on the 45th and 63rd.
