BOV Division 2: Comfortable win for Hamrun Spartans

Hamrun Spartans returned to winning ways as they beat Ghaxaq 5-1 in one of the six matches in programme from the BOV Second Division on Sunday.

Hamrun took the lead thanks to Ryan Spiteri on the 13th minute but an own goal on the 32nd minute restored equilibrium. However Simon Shead made it 2-1 on 37 minutes and just before half-time, Alan Tabone converted a penalty for Hamrun’s third goal. Shead added another two minutes in the second half and Ryan Spiteri scored the fifth goal on 58 minutes.

Zejtun Corinthians bounced back from three consecutive defeats with a dramatic 2-1 win over Dingli Swallows.

Gary Busuttil put Zejtun ahead four minutes from the end of the first half but three mintues later, Dylan Mercieca converted a penalty to make it 1-1. The game seemed heading for a draw but Margeith Scicluna notched the winner one minute in added time.

Gharghur also returned to victory thanks to a 3-1 win over Mellieha. Muda Fagbeja was the hero for Gharghur with three goals on 42, 65 and 68 minutes with Kyle Simiana scoring a consolation goal for Mellieha twelve minutes from time.

Jean Claude Cesare scored twice for Zabbar St. Patrick on 56 minutes and 65 minutes as they defeated Marsa 2-1 with Heathcliff Schembri scoring a consolation goal for Marsa two minutes from time.

Swieqi United and Sirens shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw, goals by Leontiev Konda on 47 minutes and Clifford Obiwanne on 77 minutes.

In another match, San Gwann beat Siggiewi 5-2.

Hamrun lead the way with 16 points, followed by Senglea and San Gwann on 15, Gharghur 13, Zabbar 11, Mellieha 10, Swieqi and Marsa 8, Zejtun and Sirens 7, Siggiewi 4, Ghaxaq and Dingli 3 and Xghajra 0.
