Citizens aim at returning to winning ways

After losing three out of the last five matches, including two consecutive defeats to Pietà Hotspurs and Birkirkara in their last two outings, Valletta will be all out to return to winning ways as they take on Naxxar Lions in one of the two BOV Premier League matches in programme on Sunday at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

The Citizens are currently eighth on ten points, together with neighbours Floriana, but a win over Naxxar would enable them to join Qormi and Mosta in fourth place.

Their opponents, Naxxar Lions, are currently second from bottom with four points from eight matches. They are still chasing their first win.

Angus Buhagiar returns for Naxxar after serving a two-match ban but Andrew Scicluna is ruled out through suspension while David Fenech and Sidney da Silva are injured. For Valletta, Luke Dimech is suspended and Alex Terra injured.

Meanwhile in the second match, Sliema Wanderers take on Balzan.

Following Birkirkara’s defeat to Hibernians, a win for Balzan would enable them to join the Stripes in second place. But it would not be easy considering that they dropped precious points in two 1-1 draws with Floriana and Pietà.

Sliema, on the other hand, defeated Pietà, Zebbug and Mosta in their last three outings to climb from ninth to sixth and another win against Balzan would put them in third place, on level points with the same Balzan.

Clifford Gatt Baldacchino is suspended but Michael Mifsud and Paltemio Barbetti should be back after missing the last game.
