Premier clubs issue statement following recent controversy surrounding reform in players’ status regulations

The Premier Division Standing Committee issued a statement following recent controversy surrounding the players’ status regulations and the number of foreigners eligible to play in the Premier League.

The statement, signed by PDSC secretary Mario Debono, says that at this point it is still premature to discuss or even reveal the counter-proposals it was making as part of the reform in the regulations which are being presented by the Malta Football Association.

“After holding a number of meetings with stakeholders, during which the changes in regulations were explained, the Malta Football Association forwarded a draft of these proposals to the various standing committees representing the various divisions for these to be analysed and discussed.”

“The PDSC believes that in respect towards the agreement with the MFA regarding the process of consultation and dialogue between the various stakeholders, the PDSC will only reveal its position once a final decision is taken and the final document is agreed upon and presented.”

The Premier Division Standing Committee concluded with an appeal for all stakeholders to do the same and act with responsibility.
