Zebbug Rangers register first win

Zebbug Rangers finally claimed their first win in the BOV Premier League as a goal in stoppage time gave them a 2-1 over Tarxien Rainbows.

The Rangers are still anchored at the bottom of the table but now move to just four points behind Tarxien Rainbows. The Rainbows have now gone eight matches without a win.

Zebbug lacked the suspended Carlo Monti while Tarxien were still without the injured Firas Aboulezz and Owen Bugeja.

Tarxien managed to take the lead on the 13th minute when Carlos Menendez Hevia concluded a solo effort with a low shot which ended in the bottom right corner behind Fabricio Rapchan.

Six minutes in the second half, Zebbug levelled matters when off a corner by Mathias Muchardi, Bojan Mamic headed home past goalkeeper Sean Mintoff.

Meanwhile in another match, Floriana and Pietà Hotspurs shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.

A draw which satisfied neither side as the Greens were aiming for a win which would have put them in fourth-place while Pietà were hoping to return to winning ways after a defeat to Mosta and a draw with Tarxien.

The match came to life in the final couple of minutes.

Two minutes from time, Pieà Hotspurs were awarded a penalty after goalkeeper Tyrone Gauci brought Malcolm Licari down inside the area. From the penalty spot, Jurgen Pisani converted to put the Hotspurs ahead.

However their joy was short-lived as one minute in added time, off a cross by Steve Pisani, Steve Bonnici headed home to equalise.
