BOV Division 3: Marsaskala extend unbeaten run

Marsaskala extended their unbeaten run in the BOV Third Division to stay one point behind leaders Mdina Knights who however have played a game more.

A goal by Kyle Azzopardi on the 36th minute gave Marsaskala a narrow win over Ghaxaq at the Sirens Stadium while Mdina Knights defeated Kalkara 4-2 at the Luxol Stadium. Giulio Sammut put the Knights ahead on the 4th minute. Mark Cremona doubled the score one minute in the second half and Malcolm Vassallo made it 3-0 on the hour. Matthew Scicluna reduced the gap on the 77th and three minutes later, Jonathan Xerri added another for Kalkara. However Alex Demarco sealed the issue with a fourth goal for Michael Molzahn’s side.

Marsaxlokk dropped two important points as they were held in a goalless draw by Santa Lucia at the Sirens Stadium.

Attard returned to winning ways as they beat Luqa St. Andrew’s 5-0 at the Charles Abela Stadium. Nigel Spiteri put Attard ahead on the 17th, Jurgen Gerada doubled the score on the 19th and Kurt Zahra made it 3-0 on the 34th. Three minutes in the second half, Andrew Agius added another with Mark Anthony Grech scoring the fifth goal on the 74th.

A brace by Vamuya Fafana paved the way for a comfortable win for Mtarfa over Kalkara at the Charles Abela Stadium. Fafana scored on the 17th and 24th before Carl Mizzi scored a third one minute in the second half.

Dingli Swallows and St. Venera Lightnings shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw at the Luxol Stadium. Danijel Vasic put the Lightnings ahead on the 18th minute but a brace by Joshua Sciarrino on the 27th and 72nd turned the score in Dingli’s favour. However St. Venera rescued a point with a goal by Dylan Mercieca five minutes from time.

Mdina lead the way with 23 points, followed by Marsaskala on 22, Marsaxlokk 20, Attard 19, Santa Lucia 15, Dingli 14, Ghaxaq 13, St. Venera and Luqa 11, Kalkara 10, Mtarfa and Xghajra 8 and Ta’ Xbiex 4.
