BOV Division 3: Kirkop stay top despite suffering second successive defeat

Kirkop United retain a one-point lead over Mgarr United despite suffering a second consecutive lead in the BOV Third Division as Mgarr were also beaten on Saturday.

A brace by Francesco Azzopardi gave Mtarfa a 2-0 win over Kirkop United. Azzopardi put Mtarfa ahead on the 21st and doubled the score on the 27th. Mgarr, on the other hand, lost 1-2 to Kalkara. Oscar Martin Aparicio put Mgarr ahead on the 15th minute but Andrea Hammett equalised on the 65th and Darren Cristina scored the winner six minutes later.

Santa Lucia registered a third consecutive win, beating Marsaxlokk 5-1. Mohammed Senussi Telessi put Santa Lucia ahead on the 19th. Mohammed Senussi Telessi doubled the score five minutes from the end of the first half but just before half-time, Dylan Attard pulled one back when he converted a penalty. Senussi increased the lead on 57 minutes and Annati scored twice on 62 and 88 minutes to seal the issue.

A goal by Andrew Caruana on 75 minutes gave Mdina Knights a 1-0 win over Ta’ Xbiex.

Attard and St. Venera Lightnings shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Kurt Zahra put Attard ahead three minutes from the end of the first half and Darren Farrugia converted a penalty to equalise on the 59th.

In another match, Marsaskala defeated Luqa St. Andrew’s 4-0. Denis Sytnik scored three of the goals on the 20th, 49th and 66th with Miguel Farrugia Spiteri adding another three minutes from time.

Kirkop lead the way with 30 points, followed by Mgarr on 29, Santa Lucia 27, Mtarfa and Qrendi 25, Attard and Marsaskala 23, Sta. Venera 22, Kalkara 20, Mdina 16, Luqa 10, Marsaxlokk 9 and Ta’ Xbiex 6.
