BOV Division 1: Second successive defeat for Gudja

Gudja United suffered another setback in the battle for promotion from the BOV First Division as they conceded a second consecutive defeat, losing 0-2 to Vittoriosa Stars. A defeat which leaves Gudja in sixth place, two points behind Gzira, Fgura and Melita, three behind Pembroke and six behind leaders St. Andrews.

Felipe Canavan converted a penalty after just four minutes to put Vittoriosa ahead and Lamine Ndiaye doubled the score on the 56th.

Gzira United lost 1-2 to St. George’s. A penalty by Larson Mallia on the 56th paved the way for St. George’s who doubled the score six minutes later through Emerson Amaira. Jeremiah Ani reduced the gap for the Maroons on the 65th.

A goal by Alexander Eby on the 13th minute enabled Melita to beat Mqabba 1-0.

Zurrieq, on the other hand, returned to winning ways as they registered an impressive 5-1 win over Rabat Ajax. Osi Lucky Agboebina was the hero for Winston Muscat’s side as he scored a hat-trick – on the 40th, 60th and 90th. Dylan Darmanin had scored the third goal on the 69th. Deep into stoppage time, Aaron Agius added a fifth goal before Aidan Azzopardi scored a consolation goal for Rabat.

St. Andrews lead the way with 36 points, followed by Pembroke on 33, Gzira, Fgura and Melita 32, Gudja 30, St. George’s 28, Vittoriosa 26, Lija 25, Mqabba 22, Rabat 21, Zurrieq and Msida 14 and Birzebbuga 9.
