BOV Division 1: St. Andrews keep marching on

Leaders St. Andrews keep marching on in the BOV First Division following a 4-0 win over bottom-placed Birzebbuga St. Peter’s.

Matteo Desira Buttigieg put them ahead on 31 minutes and the same player doubled the score six minutes later. Player-coach Brian Said made it 3-0 on the 84th minute and two minutes from time, Kyrian Nwoko sealed the issue with a fourth goal.

A goal by Ayrton Azzopardi on the 27th minute gave Pembroke Athleta a third consecutive win as they beat Lija Athletic 1-0. A win which puts Jacques Scerri’s side back in second place.

Fgura United extended their positive run to thirteen matches as they defeated Mqabba 2-1. Juan Manuel Ruiz Perez put Fgura ahead on 11 minutes. Stephane Tape equalised on the 32nd but Ruiz Perez notched the winner on 74 minutes.

St. George’s and Rabat Ajax shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. The Saints took the lead on the 6th minute thanks to an own goal but Adam Smeir levelled matters on 69 minutes.

St. Andrews lead the way with 39 points, followed by Pembroke on 36, Gzira and Fgura on 35, Melita 32, Gudja 30, St. George’s and Vittoriosa 29, Lija 25, Mqabba and Rabat 22, Zurrieq 17, Msida 14 and Birzebbuga 9.
