Nadur Youngsters return to winning ways

Nadur Youngsters returned to winning ways in Gozo as the Championship Pool in the Melita First Division kicked-off this weekend.

The Youngsters beat Kercem Ajax 4-1 to keep the pace with leaders Xewkija Tigers. Milos Stojanovic scored twice on the 50th and 53rd to put Nadur two goals ahead, Anderson Mendes Ribeiro pulled one back on the 70th but two minutes later, Claudio Antunes made it 3-1. Milos Stojanovic sealed the issue with a fourth goal on the 80th.

Xewkija Tigers beat Victoria Hotspurs 6-1. A brace by Eric Chidi Nwankwo put the Tigers two goals ahead as he opened the score just before half-time and doubled the score on the 54th. Dene Shields scored twice on 56 and 59 minutes increased the lead to 4-0 but Jason Pace reduced the gap on the 66th as he converted a penalty. Four minutes later, Xewkija were also awarded a penalty, converted by Daniel Bogdanovic. Bogdanovic was on target once again ten minutes from time as he made it 6-1.

In the Relegation Pool, Oratory Youths defeated neighbours SK Victoria Wanderers thanks to a penalty by Shaun Attard on the 15th and Thiago dos Santos on the 79th.

Sannat Lions and St. Lawerence Spurs shared the spoils in a 3-3 draw. Each time, Sannat took the lead, St. Lawrence levelled matters. Nicholas Micallef put Sannat ahead on the 8th, William Barbosa equalised on the 28th, Emilio Yah made it 2-1 for Sannat on 56 minutes but Mambaye Boye restored equilibrium on the 64th, Yah scored a third goal for the Wanderers on the 71st but two minutes in added time, Mambaye Boye levelled matters.

Meanwhile in the Melita Second Division, Xaghra United beat Ghajnsielem 3-1. Joseph Buhagiar and Aleandro Bezzina put Xaghra two goals ahead and although Jason Portelli pulled one back thanks to a penalty but Joseph Buhagiar made it 3-1 for Xaghra.

Munxar Falcons beat Gharb Rangers 3-1. Paul Anthony Attard put Gharb ahead but goals by Frank Paul Azzopardi, Alex Sacco and Stefan Farrugia turned the score in favour of Munxar.
