Under-19 side lose to Italy despite taking two-goal lead

The Malta Under-19 side lost 3-2 to Italy Lega Nazionale Dilettanti in a second match from Group A of the Torneo Internazionale Roma Caput Mundi at the Stadio 8 Settembre in Frascati on Tuesday.

The team led by Wayne Attard had a brilliant start, taking the lead on the 6th minute through Aidan Friggieri after a first shot by Juan Corbolan was blocked by the Italian defence. Six minutes later, Friggieri was again on target to double the score. The Italians pulled one back thanks to a Molenda penalty on the 19th and equalised on the 33rd thanks to Carissoni.

Carissoni made it 3-2 eight minutes in the second half. Malta was unlucky not to equalise six minutes later when Juan Corbolan, who is now playing for Virtus Lanciano in Italy, hit the woodwork.

Malta plays the third and final match against Wales at the Stadio Montorli in Boville Ernica on Thursday. Wales lost 0-3 to Italy but beat Albania 1-0 in their second match.
