Xewkija move closer to championship

Xewkija Tigers moved another step towards the Melita First Division championship in Gozo after beating Victoria Hotspurs 2-0 on Sunday.

John Camilleri put Xewkija ahead on 67 minutes with Daniel Bogdanovic securing victory with another goal two minutes in added time.

Nadur Youngsters came back from a goal down to beat Kercem Ajax 5-2.

Anderson Ribeiro put Kercem ahead on 18 minutes and although Milos Stojanovic levelled matters on the 27th, Ribeiro made it 2-1 for Kercem eight minutes later. Nadur restored equilibrium four minutes in the second half and the Brazilian striker added another four minutes later to put them ahead for the first time. Claudio Antunes completed a hat-trick in nine minutes as he made it 4-2 on the 58th with Milos Stojanovic scoring a fifth goal on the 79th.

In the Relegation Pool, St. Lawrence Spurs moved first thanks to a 3-0 win over Sannat Lions. William Barbosa scored twice on the 37th and 64th before Michael Matthias Uzor sealed the issue with a third goal one minute from time.

SK Victoria Wanderers also collected precious points in a 3-1 win over Oratory Youths. Sunday Baala was the hero for the Wanderers with a hat-trick as he put them ahead on the 13th and although Thiago dos Santos equalised on the 22th, the striker from Ghana added another two goals on the 38th and the 90th.

Meanwhile in the Melita Second Division, Xaghra United lost the opportunity to join Munxar Falcons in second place after losing 1-4 to Zebbug Rovers. Luke Attard put Xaghra ahead but Zebbug turned the score in their favour thanks to goals by Manwel Cordina, Sylvan Galea, Philip Cardona and Anthony Zammit.

In another match, goals by Josef Camenzuli, Frank Attard and Renzo Vella gave Gharb Rangers a 3-0 win over Qala Saints.
