Winning start for women’s national team

Malta defeated Andorra 5-3 in the first match from Group 2 of the UEFA Women’s EURO Preliminary Round mini-tournament at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Lopez Vila put Andorra ahead on the 3rd minute but Malta was quick to equalise two minutes later thanks to Rachel Cuschieri. The Apollon Ladies FC striker put Malta ahead on 21 minutes and three minutes later, Dorianne Theuma made it 3-1. Malta increased the lead further two minutes in added time through Ylenia Carabott.

Dorianne Theuma extended the lead for Malta six minutes in the second half but six minutes later, Bibiana Gonçalves Correia reduced the gap and three minutes in added time, Muelas Marina Fernandez Muelas scored a third goal for Andorra.

On Monday, Malta takes on Georgia at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, kick-off at 14:15.

In another match on Saturday, Georgia defeated Faroe Islands 2-0. Georgia captain Tatiana Matveeva put them ahead on 22 minutes and one minute from time, Lela Chichinadze doubled the score.
