Xewkija Tigers in seventh heaven

Xewkija Tigers defeated Kercem Ajax 3-1 to claim a second successive championship in Gozo and the seventh title in the history of the club.

Luke Meilak put Kercem ahead on the 6th minute but John Camilleri was quick to equalise on the 10th minute. Dene Shields made it 2-1 for Xewkija on the 21st and Eric Chidi Nwankwo sealed the issue with a third goal ten minutes in the second half.

In another match from the Championship Pool, Nadur Youngsters defeated Victoria Hotspurs 2-0 thanks to goals by Christian Debono on the 18th and Claudio Antunes on the 68th.

Meanwhile in the Relegation Pool, Oratory Youths and SK Victoria Wanderers registered important wins in the battle against relegation as they defeated Sannat Lions and St. Lawrence Spurs respectively.

Oratory Youths defeated Sannat 3-0 thanks to goals by Thiago dos Santos on the 7th minute, a Shaun Attard penalty on the 28th and another goal by Thiago dos Santos two minutes in added time.

On the other hand, a brace by Sunday Baala enabled SK Victoria Wanderers to register a fourth consecutive win, beating St. Lawrence Spurs 2-1.

The Wanderers forged ahead ten minutes in the second half through Baala, Jonathan Micallef equalised on the 76th but Baala restored the lead four minutes from time.

With one match to go, SK Victoria Wanderers lead the way with 24 points, followed by Oratory Youths on 23, St. Lawrence Spurs 22 and Sannat Lions 6. Sannat have already been relegated while the team finishing second from bottom will take part in the Promotion/Relegation Play-Off against the runner-up of the Second Division.
