Xewkija Tigers celebrate championship despite defeat

Claudio Antunes notched a hat-trick as Nadur Youngsters defeated Xewkija Tigers 3-1 in the final match from the Melita First Division Championship Pool but the Tigers were still in a mood of celebration.

The Brazilian striker put Nadur ahead on 17 minutes, doubled the score on 33 minutes and made it 3-0 on the 72nd. Daniel Bogdanovic pulled one back when he converted a penalty nine minutes from time.

Victoria Hotspurs beat Kercem Ajax 3-0 thanks to goals by Nicholas Mercieca on the 4th, Gabriel Sillato on the 13th and Antoine Camilleri on the 18th. The Hotspurs therefore ended their commitments in third place.

Claudio Antunes finished as top scorer with 23 goals, followed by Dene Shields (Xewkija) on 16 goals, Anderson Ribeiro (Kercem) and Daniel Bogdanovic (Xewkija) with 14 goals.

In the Melita Second Division, Manwel Cordina of Zebbug Rovers ended as top-scorer with 16 goals, followed by Charlon Tabone (Ghajnsielem) on 11 goals and Daniel Bartolo (Xaghra) on 9 goals.
