Early goals pave the way for Floriana in Old Firm derby

Floriana scored twice within the first six minutes, going on to beat Old Firm derby rivals Sliema Wanderers 3-1.

The Greens therefore ended their commitments in fifth place, ten points ahead of sixth-placed Sliema.

This game marked the end of the career of Cagliari, Siena, Verona, Parma and Bologna striker Andrea Pisanu.

Floriana took the lead after just two minutes through Igor Coronado who flicked the ball past Sliema goalie Sam Bartolo following a shot from outside the area.

Four minutes later, Vito Plut doubled the score for Giovanni Tedesco’s side when he tapped the ball home from close range following a cross from the left.

One minute in added time, the Wanderers pulled one back through Mateus Ribeiro dos Santos who hit low past Calleja Cremona when served on the left by Pedrinho.

However the Greens restored their two-goal lead thanks to Matteo Piciollo a minute later as he slotted the ball past Bartolo following an assist by Micallef.
