MFA statement following alleged involvement of Maltese nationals in match-fixing cases

The Malta Football Association issued a statement following the alleged involvement of two Maltese nationals – Adrian Farrugia and Robert Farrugia – in cases of match-fixing in Italy.

“With reference to reports on local and international media regarding the alleged involvement of Maltese nationals in a possible international match-fixing ring, the Malta Football Association would like to inform the general public that it is currently monitoring the situation and collecting all necessary facts that may help the MFA put more light on this matter.”

“The MFA acknowledges that this matter is presently being handled by the police authorities and until further information is available the MFA will exercise prudence in the handling of this case. ”

“The MFA will inform the general public of any steps it may take on this situation when all facts are clear and official documentation is received by the Association. ”

Adrian Farrugia had been serving as team-manager of Mosta for the past two years while Robert Farrugia is the vice-president of Msida St. Joseph after serving as president for several years.

Also being investigated are former Qormi FC transfer market consultant and former director general at Gudja United and Vittoriosa Stars Felice Bellini and former Vittoriosa Stars coach Arturo Di Napoli.
