Ryan Fenech joins Balzan

Balzan managed to place the first major signing this summer as they secured the services of Malta international midfielder Ryan Fenech from Valletta.

A product of Hamrun Spartans, Fenech made his Premier League debut in season 2002/03. He had a short spell on loan with Sliema Wanderers in season 2009/10. Back with the Spartans, he moved to Valletta in the January 2011 transfer window, sigining a five-year deal. He had been playing for Valletta since then, apart from another short spell on loan with Sliema between January and May 2012.

Balzan FC Honorary President Anton Tagliaferro said “After much media speculation, we are very pleased to confirm that one of Malta’s best players, Ryan Fenech, has joined Balzan FC. Ryan will be a valuable addition to our first team as we seek to cement our place as one of the top four clubs in Malta. While we are happy with the core of our squad that did so well last season, we continue to look to further strengthen our squad with the addition of a few key signings. I am also pleased to say that it is planned that several promising youngsters from our Academy will also included in the first squad this season and I am sure that Ryan will be a great inspiration to all of them.”

Balzan coach Oliver Spiteri added “I am very excited to have a player of Ryan’s pedigree join us at Balzan – his known abilities and his wealth of experience will be an enormous asset in coming seasons as we seek to repeat if not better the achievements of the season just ended when the club qualified for Europe for the first time. I would like to thank Mr Anton Tagliaferro in continuing to support the club in the way he does and we will work all hard to justify his faith in us.”
