UEFA Women’s Champions League: Hibs suffer 5-0 defeat in first outing

Hibernians lost 5-0 to Stjarnan of Iceland on match-day 1 in the UEFA Women’s Champions League Group 3 qualifying round mini-tournament at the Municipal Geroskipou in Paphos, Cyprus on Tuesday.

Brazilian Poliana put Stjarnan ahead on the 20th and another Brazilian, Francielle, doubled the score eight minutes later. Charlene Zammit committed an own goal six minutes from the end of the first half and Poliana added another two minutes in the second half. Sigurdardóttir sealed the issue with a fifth goal on the 90th.

Hibs will be in action once again on Thursday as they face hosts Apollon Ladies at the Paphiakos Stadium in Paphos. The Cypriot champions, who feature Malta international Rachel Cuschieri in their squad, defeated KI of the Faroe Islands 2-0 on Tuesday.
