Valletta, Sliema reach St. Andrews Summer Friendship Cup final

Valletta and Sliema Wanderers will be contesting the final of the St. Andrews Summer Friendship Cup being played at the Luxol Stadium as they both registered wins in Tuesday’s semi-finals.

In the first semi-final, Group A winners Valletta found no difficulty in beating First Division side Senglea Athletic 6-0. Njongo Priso put the Citizens ahead on the 12th and six minutes later, new recruit Romeu Romao doubled the score. A brace by Luke Montebello on the 25th and 42nd increased the lead further before Roderick Briffa scored a fifth goal just before half-time. Early in the second half, Shaun Bajada added another goal to seal the issue.

Meanwhile in the second semi-final, Sliema Wanderers, who won Group B, defeated Tarxien Rainbows 2-1. Alex Muscat scored twice in the first half on 21 and 33 minutes to put the Blues two goals ahead with Joao Pedro Oliveira Santos reducing the gap for the Rainbows on the 70th.
