Third win for Mosta — Wanderers claim first three points

Mosta maintained their perfect run on top the BOV Premier League table thanks to a comfortable 3-0 win over newly-promoted St. Andrews at the Hibernians Stadium.

For Luxol, this was the third defeat in as many matches.

Mosta had Bosnian forward Edin Murga making his debut after his loan move from Birkirkara.

The Saints went close to taking the lead on the 7th minute with a fine lob by Joseph Farrugia which was blocked by Tyrone Farrugia on the goal line headed the ball onto the crossbar off the rebound, Kyrian Nwoko’s effort was neutralised by Omar Borg.

Mosta took the lead on the 27th when an Ian Zammit corner from the left was not held by goalkeeper Diego Rossetto with the ball ending at the back of the net.

Four minutes in the second half, Edin Murga was unlucky to hit the foot of the upright with a shot from the left.

However Edin Murga was not to be denied on 66 minutes when he received a through pass on the left, rounded the goalkeeper and hit home.

The Blues increased the lead further six minutes from time when James Brincat served Edin Murga from whose cross, substitute Saviour Fidelis beat the St. Andrews goalkeeper.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Sliema Wanderers collected their first three points thanks to a narrow win over Pembroke Athleta.

For Pembroke, this was the first defeat after claiming maximum points from the first two matches.

Pembroke coach Winston Muscat handed new signing goalkeeper Matthew Farrugia a place in the starting line-up. New Sliema recruit Kerlon, on the other hand, was only included as a substitute.

The Wanderers took the lead on 32 minutes when Pedrinho exchanged the ball with Michael Mifsud before slotting the ball past Farrugia from inside the goal area.

A few minutes later, the Pembroke goalkeeper stretched himself to turn into a corner another Pedrinho effort.

Early in the second half, Matthew Farrugia performed good saves on Ale Muscat and Michael Mifsud. Pembroke replied with a Paltemio Barbetti freekick on the 88th minute but Glenn Zammit saved, aided by the posts. In added time, Ariel Laudisi went close to equalising but his attempt hit the foot of the post.
