Balzan target top spot

Balzan will be aiming for maximum points on Tuesday as they take on Pembroke Athleta in one of two matches in programme at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. A win would put them temporarily on top the BOV Premier League table before leaders Hibernians’ clash with Valletta on Wednesday.

Together with the Paolites, Balzan are still unbeaten following a draw with Hibs, a win over Naxxar, a draw with Tarxien and Saturday’s narrow win over Valletta.

However Pembroke will be hoping to get a positive result from this game after they suffered two consecutive defeats to Sliema and Birkirkara in their last two outings.

Balzan should hand Ryan Fenech his league debut after being retained on the bench on Saturday but Aleksandar Vujacic and Alfred Effiong are still ruled out injured.

Meanwhile in the second match, Mosta hope to bounce back from the defeat to Sliema with a positive result against Birkirkara.

The Blues had defeated Floriana, Qormi and St. Andrews but suffered their first defeat on Saturday. Birkirkara, on the other hand, returned to winning ways as they defeated Pembroke 4-1 after dropping five points in a draw with Tarxien and a defeat to Valletta after winning their first game against Naxxar.
