Second win for Naxxar Lions

Naxxar Lions registered their second win in the BOV Premier League as they came from behind to beat bottom-placed St. Andrews 2-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. A win which enables Naxxar to leapfrog Qormi and move third from bottom.

For St. Andrews, this was the tenth defeat in as many matches, remaining anchored at the bottom of the table.

St. Andrews had two changes from the team which lost narrowly to Tarxien as new signing Eloy Edu Nkene and Matteo Desira Buttigieg were named in the starting line-up with Chris De Nguidjol and Liam Grech starting on the bench. On the other hand, Sidoine Oussou replaced David Fenech for Naxxar.

St. Andrews had a perfect start taking the lead on the 2nd minute when off a cross by Matthew Guillaumier, Matteo Desira Buttigieg rounded a defender inside the area before slotting the ball past goalkeeper Julian Azzopardi.

Naxxar levelled matters on the 20th thanks to Jurgen Debono whose freekick from the right surprised goalkeeper Kris Calleja.

Eleven minutes in the second half, the Lions notched the winner when off a corner from the right by Jurgen Debono, Blazo Rajovic headed home past goalkeeper Kris Calleja.
