FIFA Live Your Goals Open Day held in Gozo

The Malta Football Association and the Gozo Football Association in collaboration with the Sport Promotion Unit within SportMalta and the Directorate for Quality and Standards in Education (DQSE) organised a FIFA Live Your Goals Open Day Festival under the auspices of FIFA in Gozo for the very first time.

The event was held on Saturday at the Kercem Ajax Stadium in which around 100 Gozitan girls representing various Primary schools from Gozo participated. Attending this event were also the Women’s National Team’s coaches who were delighted in offering this opportunity to the young Gozitan girls.

Deputy General Secretary (Grassroots, Youth Development, Education & FSR) Maria Mifsud and Director of Women’s football Pierre Brincat underlined the importance of this project as it was directly targeted towards girls in our sister island of Gozo. They also explained how the MFA is working incessantly to attract young girls to start practising football at an early age as it is important to help them build their skills when they are still between 5 and 11 years old.

The MFA presented the GFA Women’s Sector with footballs and bibs to help them on their recruitment and retention mission and thanked all involved for their vital role in making this another successful FIFA Live Your Goals event.

The MFA also expresses their appreciation to FIFA for their support in these initiatives as it encourages them to keep working on their mission of developing the women’s game especially at grassroots levels.
