Valletta target win to extend lead

Valletta will be all out to claim the three points from the clash with Mosta at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Tuesday as they hope to extend the lead on top the BOV Premier League table. These matches were due to be played on Sunday but were postponed due to a water-logged pitch.

The Citizens won their last four matches and following Balzan’s defeat to Floriana, they managed to take the top spot and now lie one point ahead of Balzan. A win over Mosta could see them extend the lead as Balzan face Birkirkara in another difficult test on Monday.

However sixth-placed Mosta, led by former Valletta coach Ivan Zammit, are eager to upset the Citizens. A win for the Blues, who have already defeated Hibernians and held Birkirkara in a draw, would put them in joint-third place along with Floriana.

Ian Zammit is ruled out for Mosta as he serves a three-match ban while Joanthan Caruana is ruled out injured for Valletta but Roderick Briffa should be back after missing the last game.

Meanwhile in the second match, Qormi will be aiming for a positive result after four narrow defeats to Birkirkara, Balzan, Hibs and Valletta in their last four outingsas they take on Tarxien Rainbows.

Tarxien, on the other hand, claimed six points from their last two games in two wins over newly-promoted duo Pembroke and St. Andrews. They are currently seventh on 15 points, eleven ahead of Qormi.

Both sides are expected to be in full strength with no players injured or suspended.
