BOV Division 2: Marsa regain sole leadership

After dropping five points in the previous two matches, Marsa returned to winning ways as they defeated Swieqi United 3-0 at the Charles Abela Stadium in one of the six BOV Second Division matches in programme on Sunday.

Paul Chimezie put Marsa ahead on the 15th, Lee James Agius doubled the score four minutes in the second half and Chimezie added another five minutes later.

Gharghur moved second as they came from behind to beat Sirens 2-1 at the Sirens Stadium. A result which puts Sirens on the 13-point mark along with Siggiewi and Zejtun Corinthians, three points behind the leaders.

Kristian Galea put Sirens ahead on the 17th but Gharghur levelled matters through Christian Stewart on the 37th and Isaac Chircop notched the winner one minute from time.

Zejtun Corinthians defeated Msida St. Joseph 2-0 at the Luxol Stadium thanks to goals by Jair Nelson Escobar Ortiz on the 43rd and Margeith Scicluna on the hour to join Siggiewi in third place.

Kirkop United beat Zurrieq 3-1 in another match at the Luxol Stadium. Alex Ribic put them ahead on the 17th, Matthew Caruana doubled the score five minutes from the end of the first half and seven minutes in the second half, Glenn Brincat scored a third goal. Zurrieq pulled one back thanks to a penalty by Dylan Darmanin on the 56th minute.

Qrendi and Birzebbuga St. Peter’s shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw at the Sirens Stadium. Keith Bonello and Justin Zammit gave Qrendi a two-goal lead with goals in the 41st and 53rd but Ronnie Celeste pulled one back on the 62nd and Paul Camilleri notched the equaliser two minutes from time.

In another match at the Charles Abela Stadium, a goal one minute from time by Daniel Saliba gave Mellieha their second win this season as they beat Zabbar St. Patrick 1-0.

Marsa lead the way with 16 points, followed by Gharghur on 14, Siggiewi and Zejtun 13, Sirens 12, Birzebbuga 11, Zabbar and Kirkop 9, Qrendi and Mellieha 8, Mgarr and Swieqi 7, Zurrieq 3 and Msida 1.
