Pembroke Athleta Nursery hosts Solidarjeta bl-Isport event

The Football Nurseries from Region 3, namely Pembroke Athleta, Luxol St. Andrews, Melita, Msida St. Joseph, San Gwann and Sliema Wanderers participated in a special event in aid of Solidarjeta bl-Isport – Malta Community Chest Fund. This event was very well organised with a series of Sports fun games besides Football for all kids.

This day was marked by the presence of the President of Malta, H.E. Marie Louise Coleiro Preca who was welcomed by Nursery Chairperson Yvonne Debono and Committee Member Dorita Agius as H.E. walked to our Grounds our National Anthem was played. During her speech she praised all the local Nurseries, including their coaches and committee members who she said are doing an excellent job to educate these young children.

The President also thanked the parents for bringing these kids to these activities in order to help the Malta Community Chest Fund and understand its purpose. The President ended her speech by asking all those present to sing again the Maltese National Anthem because we must be proud of our greatness despite being a small nation.

The Pembroke Athleta Football Nursery Chairperson, Yvonne Debono thanked H.E. The President for visiting our Sports Complex after which Sabrin Blihi & Caine Attard from our football nursery presented a beautiful bouquet of flowers to our President which was greatly appreciated by H.E.
A very good turnout of around 150 Under-11 boys and girls participated in several activities i.e. Rounders, Tennis Football, 5-aside matches, Coerver skills, Obstacle races, hand ball, and team building games organised by the Pembroke Athleta Organising team. The ex-international goalkeeper Saviour Darmanin gave his contribution by sharing his ideas for the worthy causes of the Malta Community Chest Fund.

We thank all the Nurseries who participated in this event, Mr. Claude Chetcuti and his coaches from the Coerver Coaching Malta, the paramedics of the St. John’s Ambulance, our Under 17s boys who gave their support, and our committee organising team, especially Jezabel Grech and Dorita Agius who together with our Head Coach Philip Pisani and Mark Pace were instrumental in the success of this day.

We also convey our gratitude to Mr. Tony Micallef from the National Blood Transfusion Service – Malta who raised awareness of the importance of blood donations by means of a banner at the entrance of our premises.

Our final thanks go to all volunteers assisting the Community Chest Fund and the staff at the Office of the President of Malta particularly Julian Holland who was away from Island on the day, for supporting the planning and execution of this event.
