Second-half comeback puts Hibernians back on top

Hibernians re-joined Valletta on top the BOV Premier League table as they came from behind to beat Floriana 4-2.

Floriana were a better side during the first half, going into half-time with a narrow 2-1 lead. However the Paolites had other ideas and after levelling matters, they scored twice in the final stages to take home the three points.

Tyrone Gauci started in goal for Floriana as he replaced the injured Matthew Calleja Cremona. Hibernians, on the other hand, were in full strength.

The Greens took the lead on the 12th minute thanks to Matteo Picciollo who received a pass outside the area and hit hard past goalkeeper Jurgen Borg.

However two minutes later, Hibs restored equilibrium thanks to an Andrew Cohen freekick from the left, slightly deflected by Scozzese past goalkeeper Tyrone Gauci.

Floriana regained the lead on 28 minutes when off a throw-in by Steve Pisani, Matteo Picciollo intelligently served Mauricio Villa on the left and off the latter’s pass, Mario Fontanella anticipated Jurgen Borg from close range.

Seventeen minutes in the second half, Andrew Cohen levelled matters when off a Clayton Failla corner from the right, the Hibs captain concluded from close range with the ball hitting the upright before ending at the back of the net.

Seven minutes from time, Jorge Santos Silva concluded a good move with a powerful diagonal shot which beat goalkeeper Tyrone Gauci.

Two minutes in added time, Hibs sealed the issue with a fourth goal as substitute Gilmar da Silva Ribeiro concluded a great run on the left with a rising shot from the edge of the area which gave the Floriana goalkeeper no chance.
