Balzan sign Alan da Silva, close in on Paul Fenech

Balzan secured the services of Brazilian striker Alan da Silva Souza, formerly of Valletta. Alan da Silva will be signing a two-and-a-half year deal.

The twenty-eight year old striker had played for Metalurh Donetsk, Stal Alchevsk and Arsenal Kyiv in Ukraine before moving to AEK Larnaca in Cyprus. He returned to Ukraine for a spell with Bukovyna Chernivtsi, joining Valletta in January 2014, also winning the BOV Premier League title.

Last season, Alan played for PAE Ergotelis in Greece.

Balzan, who had earlier secured the services of Pedro dos Santos Calcado, are also close to signing Malta international midfielder Paul Fenech from Birkirkara.

A product of Naxxar Lions, Paul Fenech joined Msida St. Joseph in season 2005/06 but in summer 2007, he moved to Birkirkara with whom he won all major honours

As part of the deal which will take Fenech to Balzan, Chilean midfielder Edison Bilbao Zarate is expected to join Birkirkara.

Edison Bilbao Zarate moved to Malta in summer 2012 to join Qormi and after a fine season with the club, he moved to the USA to join New York Cosmos. He returned to Malta in January 2014, spending the last two years with Balzan.

Meanwhile Terence Agius, who had joined Balzan from Pietà Hotspurs last January, will be moving to Pembroke Athleta who had earlier signed Manolito Micallef from Mosta.
