Birkirkara, Balzan swap Paul Fenech, Edison Bilbao Zarate

Birkirkara and Balzan have reached an agreement with Balzan FC to swap midfielders Paul Fenech and Edison David Bilbao Zarate on a permanent basis. This swap deal means that Fenech will be playing for Balzan while Zarate will be joining Birkirkara.

A product of Naxxar Lions, Paul Fenech joined Msida St. Joseph in season 2005/06 but in summer 2007, he moved to Birkirkara with whom he won all major honours including two Premier League championships, two FA Trophies and two Super Cups apart from the Footballer of the Year award in 2012/13.

Edison Bilbao Zarate played for Cultural de Montalegre in Portugal and Ramonense in Costa Rica before moving to Malta in summer 2012 to join Qormi and after a fine season with the club, he moved to the USA to join New York Cosmos. He returned to Malta in January 2014 to sign for Balzan where he spent the past two years, being a key player for the team which secured a historic place in the UEFA Europa League last summer.

Bilbao Zarate signs a two-and-a-half year deal with Birkirkara.
