Justin Haber joins Hibernians from Birkirkara

Birkirkara FC and Hibernians FC reached an agreement over the permanent transfer of the thirty-four year old goalkeeper Justin Haber. This move will bring to an end Haber’s second spell with the Stripes after three years.

Until the beginning of December, Haber was playing regularly for the Stripes but an injury ruled him out for the past seven weeks. Since then Birkirkara signed Croatian goalkeeper Miroslav Kopric.

A product of Floriana, Justin Haber made his Premier League debut in season 1998/99, spending a short loan spell with Bulgarian side Dobrudzha Dobrich. In summer 2002, he moved to Birkirkara where he spent three years before joining US Quevilly in France in summer 2005. The following season, he moved to Royal Excelsior Virton in Belgium but mid-way through the season, he returned to Malta to join Marsaxlokk.

In summer 2007, Haber joined AO Haidari in Greece but the following season, he moved to England to join Sheffield United. With the Blades, the Malta international goalkeeper failed to play any matches for the senior team. After failing to break into the first team, in August 2009, Haber was allowed to join their sister club Ferencváros on loan until the end of the year. Five months later, he signed an 18 month contract with the Hungarian side, moving to Kerkyra in summer 2011.

He returned to Malta in summer 2012 and joined Mosta but moved to Birkirkara the following January.

Over the past weeks, Hibernians had foreign goalkeepers on trial as young goalies Jurgen Borg and Rudy Briffa battled for the number one shirt.
