BOV Division 2: Top three register wins

The situation at the top in the BOV Second Division remained unchanged as Gharghur, Marsa and Sirens all registered wins on Saturday.

A goal by Muda Fagbeja on the 59th minute gave leaders Gharghur a narrow win over Kirkop United at the Sirens Stadium. Marsa beat Zabbar St. Patrick 2-0 at the Charles Abela Stadium courtesy of goals by Timothy Thomas on the 14th and Gilbert Martin on the 93rd minute.

Sirens, on the other hand, found no difficulty in beating bottom-placed Msida St. Joseph 5-0 at the Charles Abela Stadium. Giovanni Galea put the St. Paul’s Bay side ahead on the 4th and the same player converted a penalty two minutes in the second half. Ethan Jay Goodman increased the lead further with a hat-trick on the 48th, 50th and 79th.

Birzebbuga St. Peter’s returned to winning ways as they defeated Swieqi United 2-1 at the Luxol Stadium. The match came to life in the final fifteen minutes as Shawn Darmanin put Birzebbuga ahead on the 75th and Matthew Borda doubled the score three minutes later with Jonathan Briscoe White reducing the gap on 84 minutes.

Siggiewi and Zejtun Corinthians shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at the Sirens Stadium. Vince Camilleri gave Zejtun the lead on the 72nd but Siggiewi rescued a point with a goal five minutes from time thanks to Stephen Ngoh Eseme.

Qrendi defeated Zurrieq 5-0 in another match at the Luxol Stadium. Luke Scorfna opened the score four minutes in the second half and Luca Casha doubled the score five minutes later. Ryan Schembri made it 3-0 on the 69th, Bjorn Chetcuti 4-0 on the 77th and three minutes later, Luca Casha scored a fifth.

Gharghur lead the way with 40 points, followed by Marsa on 39, Sirens 38, Zabbar 29, Siggiewi and Birzebbuga 26, Qrendi and Zejtun 25, Mgarr 24, Mellieha 22, Swieqi 19, Kirkop 18, Zurrieq 6 and Msida 5.
