Citizens keep marching on

Valletta keep marching on in the BOV Premier League as they defeated Qormi 2-0 at the Hibernians Stadium to extend their positive run to thirteen matches with a sixth consecutive win.

For Qormi, this was the ninth consecutive defeat although they showed slight improvement over recent outings.

Valletta lacked Ian Azzopardi, Romeu Romao, Roderick Briffa and the suspended Federico Falcone. Ousmane Sidibe and Pietro Viggiani, on the other hand, were missing for Qormi.

Jhonnattann was unlucky not to put the Citizens ahead after just two minutes when his attempt from inside the area hit the upright.

Three minutes later, Valletta took the lead thanks to a rising shot from the edge of the area by Llywelyn Cremona which gave Qormi goalkeeper Jean Matthias Vella no chance.

Michael Mifsud doubled the score for Valletta on the 59th minute with a low shot which beat the Qormi custodian when served by Abdelkarim Nafti.

Sliema Wanderers continued their recovery as they earned a point in a 2-2 draw with Floriana at the Victor Tedesco Stadium in a match which marked the return of Alfonso Greco as Sliema Wanderers coach.

A draw which leaves the Greens on level points with fourth-placed Birkirkara who however have a game in hand.

Floriana took the lead on the 19th minute when Nicolas Chiesa served Matteo Picciolo whose low powerful shot from just outside the area beat goalkeeper Glenn Zammit.

The Wanderers, however, equalised seven minutes later when off a corner by Denni, there was a cross by Alex Muscat which reached Marko Potezica who blasted the ball past Calleja Cremona with a powerful rising shot.

The Greens could have regained on the 56th minute with a powerful drive by Nicolas Chiesa which hit the posts.

Six minutes from time, Floriana regained the lead. Clifford Gatt Baldacchino brought Mario Fontanella down inside the area; referee Fyodor Zammit ordered a penalty and from the penalty spot, Fontanella made no mistake.

However their joy was short-lived as three minutes from time, Jean Paul Farrugia served Marko Potezica whose low shot beat Calleja Cremona to equalise.

  1. SLIEMA WANDERERS vs FLORIANA ….. Kienet Partita Futbol ecitanti u mill-isbah li rajna il-bierah .

Prosit lill-plejers kollha li hadu sehem u taw kollox biex rajna spettaklu eccellenti .

Marko Potezica SPIKKA fuq kullhadd, kien libero perfett, jiddefendi, iwaqqaf l-attaki f’nofs il-pitch u wera l-aktar il-potenzjal tieghu bhala attakant u ‘goal-skorer’. Armando fl-ewwel dehera tieghu (#5)ukoll kien eccellenti kif kienu ukoll Clifford G Baldacchino, AleX, Mark Scerri u Gary Muir.
Rigward Marko dan dejjem hsibtu u aktar emmint fih minn meta is-Sliema kelllna NIXFA KBIRA ghax l-attakant principali Michael Mifsud ma kien skorja XEJN HLIEF GOAL WIEHED f’xi TMINTAX il-partita….. u ma KIEN sar XEJN !

Il-bierah Marko fil-fatt skorjaTLIETA, ghax il-goal li SKORJA BIR-RAS li thassarlu u li kien ipoggi lis-Sliema 2-1 fil-VANTAGG kien misteru kif thassar. Kif jista qatt il-ballun qabez il-linja (over?) jekk Alex Muscat kien ixxuttja minn-korner u l-ballun tefghaw EZATT quddiem il-kaxxa z-zghajra fejn kien hemm Marko zmarkat? Nispera li f’xi programm Sportiv illum il-Hadd, jintwera (slow-mo?) biex naraw sew x’kienet ir-raguni.

Jista jkun li l-assistant referee ma’ndunax jew nesha li dan kien KORNER ?

Forsi haseb li ALEX (SW) kien gab jew zamm il-ballun minn-barra l-pitch ? Jekk u hekk, dan kien ‘LAPSUS’ghax il-plejers, l-aktar IL-GOLER Calleja Cremona u Marcellina tal-FURJANA deheru jiddispra li SAR GOWL !
