BOV Division 1: Precious points for Zebbug Rangers

Zebbug Rangers collected three precious points as they defeated Rabat Ajax 2-1 in one of the four BOV First Division matches in programme on Sunday. Three points which put them in a more comfortable mid-table position, eight points ahead of San Gwann.

Godwin Mackay converted a penalty on the 25th to put Zebbug ahead but Chris Vella levelled matters three minutes later. However Angelo Catania restored the lead for the Rangers on the 71st to hand them victory.

On the other hand, a hat-trick by Paul Chimezie and a goal by Claudio Calleja gave Mqabba a most comfortable win over Fgura United in another match at Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Vittoriosa Stars found no difficulty in beating bottom-placed Gudja United 5-2 at the Centenary Stadium. Ryan Previ put the Stars ahead on the 9th and Milijan Milivojev doubled the score on the 18th. Didier Sohna pulled one back for Gudja on the 28th but Vittoriosa regained a comfortable lead thanks to goals by Adrian Carabott on the 34th and Milijan Milivojev on the 37th. Milivojev added another on the 56th with Didier Sohna scoring a second goal for Gudja four minutes from time.

Senglea Athletic moved back in third place thanks to a 4-0 win over San Gwann. Ryan Dalli put Senglea ahead five minutes in the second half and Aud-Gustine James Obaje doubled the score on the 68th. Ten minutes from time, Mattia Del Negro made it 3-0 with Miguel Ciantar increasing the lead further deep into added time.

Gzira lead the way with 47 points, followed by Hamrun on 44, Senglea 35, Pietà 34, Lija 27, Vittoriosa and Mqabba 26, Zebbug 25, Rabat and Fgura 23, Melita 22, San Gwann 17, St. George’s 15 and Gudja 8.
