The Pembroke Local Council, in collaboration with Pembroke Athleta Football Nursery, organized the Travel Sport San Jaime Carnival Football Festival 2016 with the participation of eight Football Nurseries in the Under-11 Category and twelve Nurseries in the Under-14 category. The Under-11 boys and girls played against each other in a friendly atmosphere as two groups of four teams each were formed with teams in each group playing against each other. On the other hand, the Under-14 tournament took place over three days i.e. Sunday/Monday and Tuesday during the Carnival period.

Four groups of three teams each were formed from which the first two teams in each group played the quarter finals. In the semi-finals, Pietà defeated Hamrun 1-0 while Melita beat Pembroke 4-1. Pietà won the tournament after defeating Melita on penalties with Hamrun taking third place after beating Pembroke 3-0.

Pembroke Mayor Dr Dean Hili congratulated all participating Nurseries for their fair play and high level of football and then presented all participating children with mementos and group photos for the occasion.

It was a successful tournament thanks to the Pembroke Local Council, Travel Sport San Jaime, all participating nurseries and the Pembroke Athleta organizing committee led by Mark Pace who ensured the smooth running of the festivals.
