Live-in for Sliema Wanderers Nursery coaches

A live-in for all the nursery coaches of Sliema Wanderers Football Club was organised during the first weekend of March. It served the purpose to provide opportunities of professional development and team building for the Club’s technical staff members. Various seminars, workshops, practical sessions, discussions and talks were included in the programme.

The list of speakers and instructors comprised Stefano Grima (MFA coach education tutor), Kirill Micallef Stafrace (sports medicine specialist), Adrian Casha (ex-MFA Director of Refereeing), Andrew Azzopardi (Head of Safeguarding & Director of Children’s Homes – Church of Malta), the Technical Director, Stephen Azzopardi and coaches from the sector itself namely, Ivan Woods, Martin Sacco and Lawrence Formosa. Mass was celebrated by Fr. Hilary Tagliaferro and Mr. Joe Mallia, from the MFA Technical Centre, was present on Saturday.

A number of interesting topics were covered, amongst which were the lecture on Safeguarding Children in Football, Key Issues Related to Physical Development during Puberty, Agility and Speed, Small-Sided Games to teach Transition and The Comprehensive Review of the Laws of the Game.

The live-in was brought to an end with a discussion on the way forward for the nursery.
