Ghajnsielem keep marching on

Gozo Football League First Division leaders Ghajnsielem kept marching on as they defeated Oratory Youths 2-0 at the Gozo Stadium on Sunday to stay six points clear of last season’s champions Xewkija Tigers.

Joseph Vella converted a penalty two minutes from the end of the first half to put the Blacks ahead and although Dhonatan Santos Da Hora had a penalty saved by the Youths goalkeeper on the 55th, Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza sealed the issue with a second goal on the 69th.

Xewkija Tigers registered a comfortable 4-0 win over St. Lawrence Spurs. Chris Camilleri and Thiago Melo dos Santos scored in the final two minutes before the end of the first half to put the Tigers two goals ahead. John Camilleri made it 3-0 on the 76th and seven minutes from time, Daniel Bogdanovic increased the lead further.

In the Gozo Football League Second Division, Xaghra United maintained their unbeaten record with a 2-1 win over Munxar Falcons at the Kercem Ajax Stadium. Paul Said put Munxar ahead on the 13th but Xaghra turned the score in their favour thanks to goals by Oliver Farrugia on the 64th and Joseph Buhagiar on the 68th.

Nadur Youngsters registered a similar 2-1 win over Sannat Lions. Brandon Said put Nadur ahead on the 41st but although Josiah Buttigieg levelled matters on the 55th, Saviour Attard notched the winner on the 58th.

In another match, Gharb Rangers defeated Qala Saints 6-1. Oleg Pogukay gave Qala the lead on the 14th but by the end of the first half, Gharb had already equalised and taken a two-goal lead thanks to goals by Frank Attard on the 39th, Paul Anthony Attard on the 40th and Josef Camenzuli on the 45th. Sylvan Galea added another two goals on the 59th and 70th with Renzo Vella scoring on the 62nd.
