Women’s football: Second draw for Hibernians, Gozo promoted

Leaders Hibernians were held in a draw for the second time in three matches as they earned just a point in a goalless draw with Raiders (Luxol) in a match from the BOV Women’s First Division at the Luxol Stadium on Tuesday. The Paolites’ lead therefore goes down from eleven points to seven in the last two weeks.

Birkirkara moved seven points behind the leaders thanks to a 3-1 win over Pembroke Athleta. Raina Giusti put the Stripes ahead on the 39th and although Luana Vella equalised on the 59th, Raina Giusti added another two goals on the 74th and 83rd.

Mgarr United registered a fine 5-0 win over Kirkop United thanks to a hat-trick by Brenda Borg on the 12th, 47th and 76th, Amber Grech on the hour and Claudette Xuereb on the 73rd.

In the BOV Women’s Second Division, Gozo secured the title after defeating Kirkop United Team B 8-0. Manuela Bogdanovic opened the score on the 7th, Joselene Gafa scored twice on the 15th and 83rd, Jolene Camilleri on the 21st and Maria Farrugia on the 31st, 55th, 80th and 89th.

Swieqi United defeated Tarxien Rainbows 6-0 thanks to a brace by Sammy Jo Barbara on the 11th and 47th, Maria Elena Grech on the 28th, Amy Galea Gingell on the 70th and 87th and Emma Moore on the 85th.

In another match, Mosta defeated Sliema Wanderers 2-0. Kirsten Attard opened the score on the 27th and Raisa Calleja doubled the score on the 35th.
