Xewkija Tigers claim BOV GFA Cup

For the second time in a week, Xewkija Tigers defeated Ghajnsielem, this time to claim the BOV GFA Cup.

The two teams secured a place in the final after winning the two semi-finals which were played during the week. Xewkija needed a goal on the 93rd minute by Thiago Melo Dos Santos to defeat SK Victoria Wanderers on Wednesday. On the other hand, Ghajnsielem defeated Victoria Hotspurs 4-1 on Thursday courtesy of Kenny Hili (29th), Dhonatan Santos da Hora (55th), Shaun Bajaada (59th) and Joseph Vella (86th) with Sunday Baala scoring a consolation goal for the Hotspurs one minute from time.

In Sunday’s final, Xewkija, who had registered a 3-0 win in the previous week’s decisive clash which forced a championship decider, defeated Ghajnsielem 2-0.

Dene Shields put the Tigers ahead on the 8th minute and Thiago Melo Dos Santos doubled the score on the 63rd.

Tanya Gravina, Manager Marketing Department at Bank of Valletta presented the BOV GFA Cup to the winners.

Meanwhile on Saturday, Gharb Rangers found no difficulty in winning the Second Division Knock-Out as they defeated Qala Saints 7-0.

Sylvan Galea put Gharb ahead on the 8th minute and ten minutes later, Reuben Zammit doubled the score. One minute from the end of the first half, Christian Attard had a penalty partially saved by the goalkeeper but he placed the ball at the back of the net off the rebound to make it 3-0. Sylvan Galea added another on the 59th and three minutes later, Roy Vella converted a penalty. Two minutes from time, Christian Attard made it 6-0 and Josef Camenzuli scored the seventh and final goal three minutes in added time.
