Ghedin names final squad for Czech Republic, Austria friendlies

National coach Pietro Ghedin named a 20-man squad for the two friendly matches in programme against the Czech Republic and Austriaon the 26th May and Austria on the 31st May with both games due to be played in Austria.

Malta faces the Czech Republic at the Kufstein Arena in Kufstein, Austria on Friday and then Austria at the Worthersee Stadion in Klagenfurt on Tuesday.

Valletta captain Jonathan Caruana and Aris Limassol defender Steve Borg, along with Tarxien Rainbows striker Luke Montebello were dropped from the provisional squad.

Goalkeeper Andrew Hogg who has been inactive since January and Omonia Nicosia midfielder Andre Schembri who is getting married are also missing.

England-born midfielder Luke Gambin, who plays for Barnet in the League Two, is in line to make his debut after making it to the 20-man squad.

defenders Andrei Agius (Hibs), Cain Attard (Birkirkara), Ryan Camenzuli (Birkirkara), Ryan Camilleri (Valletta), Clayton Failla (Hibs), Clifford Gatt Baldacchino (Sliema), Zack Muscat (Akragas – ITA);
midfielders Roderick Briffa (Valletta), Llywelyn Cremona (Valletta), Paul Fenech (Balzan), Bjorn Kristensen (Hibs), Rowen Muscat (Pavia – ITA), Steve Pisani (Floriana), Gareth Sciberras (Birkirkara);
forwards Alfred Effiong (Balzan), Jean Paul Farrugia (Sliema), Luke Gambin (Barnet – ENG), Michael Mifsud (Valletta).

The squad leaves Malta on Wednesday morning, destination Munich, Germany from where the team will travel to Bad Haring, Austria. The squad will be back on Thursday 2nd June.
