Three Maltese players attracting the interest of Trapani

Three Maltese international players are attracting the interest of Italian Serie B side Trapani. According to a report on Gazzetta dello Sport, Trapani, who just missed out on promotion after losing the play-off with a 1-3 aggregate score to Pescara, are reportedly interested in signing midfielders Rowen Muscat and Bjorn Kristensen and striker Alfred Effiong.

For Rowen Muscat, this would be his second experience in Italy after joining Pavia in the Lega Pro from Birkirkara during the January transfer window, making ten appearances. Bjorn Kristensen had already played in Denmark for Silkeborg when he was still a teenager before moving back to Malta to join Hibernians. On the other hand, Nigerian-born Alfred Effiong started his career wtih Shooting Stars in Nigeria and after a spell in Malaysia, joined Kercem Ajax in Gozo. He went on to play for St. George’s, Hamrun Spartans, Qormi, Marsaxlokk, Valletta, Gzira United and Balzan.

Trapani had earlier this month completed the transfer of Brazilian striker Igor Coronado from Floriana. The twenty-three year old striker had an impressive season with the Sicilian side, scoring eight goals last season.

Another two Floriana players who are attracting the interest of the club coached by Serse Cosmi are Italian strikers Matteo Piciollo and Mario Fontanella. Fontanella scored twenty goals to finish as top scorer in the BOV Premier League last season while Piciollo scored eight goals.

Also on the books of Trapani is veteran defender Christian Terlizzi who early in his career had a short spell with Pietà Hotspurs.
