Sliema Wanderers win Evolution Gaming Summer Cup

luxol-stadiumSliema Wanderers won the Evolution Gaming Summer Cup 2016 after defeating Valletta 2-0 in the final at the Luxol Stadium on Sunday.

Mark Scerri put the Wanderers ahead during the first half and Mathias Muchardi doubled the score after the break.

After the game, captain Alex Muscat was presented with the cup by a representative of Evolution Gaming.

On Saturday, hosts St. Andrews took third place after defeating Pembroke Athleta 3-1. Joseph Farrugia converted a penalty to put Luxol ahead and Michael Johnson doubled the score before the end of the first half. Mateus Regis da Silva pulled one back for Pembroke early in the second half but Felix Okon Udoh sealed the issue for St. Andrews late in the game.

Meanwhile Mosta finished fifth as a brace by Kyle Frendo enabled them to beat newly-promoted First Division side Sirens 2-0 in another match on Saturday.
