UEFA Women’s Champions League: Twente prove too strong for Hibernians

women-champions-leagueHosts FC Twente proved too strong for champions Hibernians as they defeated them 9-0 in a match from Group 9 of the UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifying round at the Sportpark De Peuverweide in Geesteren on Thursday.

Ellen Jansen put Twente ahead on the 26th minute and Kristina Erman doubled the score five minutes later. Just before half-time, Dionne Tonna committed an own goal to put the hosts three goals ahead. Lineth Beerensteyn scored two in two minutes between the 59th and 61st to increase the lead to five goals. Then in the final minutes, Twente scored four as Maruschka Waldus hit on the 82nd, Lineth Beerensteyn two minutes later, Sabrine Ellouzi made it 8-0 on the 88th with Ellen Jansen adding another three minutes in added time.

Hibs play their last game on Sunday against Ferencvaros who lost 1-2 to Twente but defeated Konak 2-0.

Meanwhile Apollon Ladies booked their place in the round of 32 courtesy of an 89th minute goal by Malta international Rachel Cuschieri against Hajvalia FC of Kosovo. Apollon Ladies will round up their group stage’s commitments with a tie against PAOK Thessaloniki of Greece on Sunday.
