MFA considering concept of centralisation of TV rights, live streaming and gate money

MFAWhile addressing a meeting of the Council of the Malta Football Association on Wednesday, MFA president Norman Darmanin Demajo highlighted the association’s projects which are in the pipe line for the coming years which include the concept of centralisation of TV rights, live internet streaming and gate money.

The meeting started off with a heated discussion between the MFA President and Birkirkara FC president Dr Adrian Delia first and Floriana FC secretary Dione Borg later after they refused to sit in the assigned places at the Centenary Hall. This was the first time that Council members were asked to sit in assigned places, in alphabetical order, as the MFA president said he was not comfortable with having the Council members from the Premier League sitting next to each other and consulting each other. He said that the Standing Committee was the place where they could discuss their issues. Dr Adrian Delia and Dione Borg together with Hibernians FC secretary Stephen Abela and Sliema Wanderers FC president Keith Perry walked out of the hall.

MFA President Norman Darmanin Demajo said that the MFA is considering the concept of centralisation of TV rights, live internet streaming and gate money. He said that in this way, a club could plan ahead as it would have a guaranteed income.

Following the introduction of a new FA Trophy as from the coming season, Norman Darmanin Demajo said that the association is planning to change the current Premier League trophy. The same concept will be adopted where the actual trophy would be in silver and the trophy to be retained by the champions would be a silver-plated replica.

At the Millennium Stand, the MFA plans to set-up a hospitality lounge, a museum and souvenir shop at level 2 and create a business centre at Level 3 which could be rented.

Darmanin Demajo announced that he is planning to hold a series of meetings with the football family – clubs, Youth FA, Gozo FA, other member associations, referees, coaches and the media. This informal meetings will serve to put forward suggestions and recommendations.

Meanwhile during the same meeting, the MFA President announced that the Board of Internal Auditors found no irregularities with regards to works at a number of stadia. These allegations were put forward by the Premier Division Standing Committee. The report will be discussed by the Executive Committee.

  1. U le … irid ipoggihom alphabetical order!!! X’fiha hazin li waqt il-laqgha jkollok 2 Council Members li jitkellmu dwar xi issue li tkun qed tigi diskussa? Min x’hiex qed jibza id-dede?

  2. Mhux ahjar inressqu n nies lejn il ground milli noqoghdu nxandru l partiti live fuq it tv? mur ara kemm jista idahhlu l clubs bhala tv rights?

Sar studju biex naraw kemm realment huma dawn li jsegwu l partiti meta jkunu mxandra live fuq it tv?

  3. Centralisation is a bad idea. Football is nothing without the passion of the supporter. The clubs that attract least support will benefit most from centralisation. Leave the clubs organise matches and this will earn them gate money and TV rights.
