Ghajnsielem came back from two goals down to beat Kalkara 3-2 in a clash from the first round of the FA Trophy at the Centenary Stadium on Friday.

Third Division side Kalkara managed to take a two-goal lead after Benjamin Ayuba put them ahead on the 5th minute and Timmy Thomas doubled the score on the 26th. However a penalty and a red card for Kalkara’s Julian Briffa allowed Ghajnsielem to stage a great comeback as Chris Camilleri reduced the gap from the penalty spot on the 35th, Raphael Kooh Sohna equalised on the 65th and seven minutes from time, John Camilleri notched the winner for Anton Cremona’s side.

In the second round, the Gozitan champions face First Division side Naxxar Lions.

At the Gozo Stadium, Nadur Youngsters found no difficulty in beating Gharb Rangers 7-1 in an all-Gozitan clash.

Claudio Antunes scored on the 6th and 17th to put Nadur two goals ahead and Milos Stojanovic made it 3-0 two minutes later. Nadur scored another three goals by the 37th minute thanks to Josef Buttigieg on the 23rd, Joseph Grima on the 31st and Claudio Antunes on the 37th although Dylan Bellotti pulled one back for Gharb on the 38th. Twelve minutes from time, Christian Debono made it 7-1 for Roland Sollars’ side.

Nadur Youngsters will be facing Second Division side Ghaxaq in the second round.

Meanwhile in another match at the Centenary Stadium, a goal by Matthew Thorne on the 68th minute gave Msida St. Joseph a narrow win over Luqa St. Andrew’s in a clash between two Third Division sides.

Msida will be facing First Division side Mqabba in the second round.
